However, it just might be the best way to start overcoming your fears. Doing silly things in public could be considered a type of behavioral experiment, which is a form of cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT).  The key when it comes to social anxiety is to choose something to do that would normally embarrass you or that you would try to avoid. Start small and build up your ability to do these types of silly things. Do the easier ones first and the harder ones later. Ideally, these silly things make you feel a little or a lot embarrassed but dont hurt anyone else. Unlike your typical habit of avoidance, your goal with this task is to become embarrassed or to have others judge you. Silly, Embarrassing Things to Do in Public to Help Overcome SAD Below is a list of 20 silly things to do in public  to get started. Dance in public as though there is music. Pick your favorite song (maybe something with a bit of get up and go like Footloose) and start dancing around like a fool. Hope that people take notice.Ask someone for directions to the place where you already are. When they explain your embarrassing mistake, give a big smile and say Thank you! That makes it so much easier.Pretend to fall down. Then have trouble getting back up.Intentionally forget someones name. Then apologize. You dont want to hurt the other persons feelings.Pretend to recognize someone you dont know.  Walk up and say Hey James, how are you doing? Knock over your water in a restaurant.  Apologize profusely to the server and ask for napkins so you can clean it up afterward. Your goal is to draw attention to yourself, not to make the servers job harder.Go to a restaurant on your birthday and have them sing to you. Dont look at the table. Smile and look around the restaurant as you are made the center of attention.Press the wrong button for someone in an elevator. Do this on purpose. But, then apologize and press the right one.Pay with the wrong bills or change. Wait for the cashier to notice before correcting yourself.Show up late somewhere and make a spectacle of yourself. It might feel like the end of the world but its really not. Notice how little others really pay attention to what you do. Methodology My proposal focuses on a particular set of cultural practices, organizations, productions, and identities, such as those mobilized by the performance of investigative journalism in Chile in a post-authoritarian moment. I am particularly acknowledging culture’s conception as a process and a set of practices and not a collection of things (Hall, cited by Rose, 2016: 2), constituted by â€Å"interworked systems of construable signs† by which culture is actually a context within which â€Å"social events, behaviors, institutions, or processes† can be intelligible, â€Å"thickly described†, and not an outcome of some measurable causes (Geertz, 2008: 36). Admitting that this inductive bottom-up strategy reduces its comparative potential (Hanitzsch, 2007) and that cultural analysis is intrinsically incomplete (Geertz, 2008), it rather gains from developing conceptualizations in a specific political, economic, and cultural context. Brighouses entertaining play was set in a bootshop in Salford. At that time in Victorian society there were many divisions amongst contrasting groups of people. The Victorians had strong beliefs and values, which are somewhat different to todays modern issues. A single woman was considered of little importance in harsh Victorian society, being thought to be inferior to a man. Brighouse created Hobsons character to convey the stereotypical middle class family man, whilst introducing humour to the play. Hobson was a respectable businessman who was proud of his position in society. He was a widower, yet still a responsible father, a churchwarden and a member of the masons; certainly a man who would have been looked up to. However Hobson had many flaws in his character, which would have resulted in a mixed audience reaction. He was stubborn and often undermined and bullied people he believed to be less important than himself. This is displayed in Act 1 where Hobson beats Will Mossop to reinforce his solid Victorian values and emphasise his superior power. In contrast his treatment to Mrs Hepworth, an upper class lady, is most different. He praised her and was polite to her. Good morning, Mrs Hepworth. What a lovely day! (He places a chair for her) He was also obstinate and blinkered, especially where the female point of view was concerned- Im not so partial to women. In addition Hobson suffered from chronic alcoholism, which explained why Hobson often exhibited irrational actions and thoughts. Throughout the play the audience would have reacted in different ways illustrating a variety of social contexts relating to Victorian values. In act 1 the modern audiences reaction would have been anger when Hobson beat Will Mossop. Brighouse inserted this part about one man beating another to highlight the clear divisions in status and how it was perceived to be acceptable to do this in the Victorian times. Theres nobbut one to answer to that kind of talk, my lad (He strikes with belt) and youll get a leathering. Act 1 also portrayed his neglect for his business. Maggie who disapproved of this scolded if you stay more than an hour in the Moon-rakers inn, youll be late for it. The audiences reaction would have been disgust that he would leave his three daughters responsible for the shop, while he went out for a drink. Hobsons attitude changed in Act 3, as did the judgement of the audience. Act 3 portrayed Hobsons insecurity and his humiliation of the marriage settlement, when Maggie tricked him into paying for Vickey and Alice to get married. Ive been diddled. Its a plant. The audience reaction to that scene would have been laughter, because Hobson assumed himself to always be right, yet there he was being made a fool of by a woman. In addition, Hobsons fear of lawyers was conveyed by I dodged them, and theyve caught me in the end. Theyll squeeze me dry for it.
